Chuck Berry is an American original. There will never be another Chuck Berry, nor anyone in the music industry who could influence generations upon generations of aspiring rock ‘n rollers like Chuck has. Celebrating six decades in the music business, this East St. Louis native initially captivated millions of kids in the fifties with his first recordings like Maybellene and Roll Over Beethoven. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks, poetic lyrics and dynamic presence on the stage. Introduced to Chess Records by fellow blues rocker Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry hit a goldmine immediately with his arsenal of tunes that he presented to Phil and Leonard Chess. These great songs culminated into a handful of top charting singles which led to his first legendary album After School Session. Kicking things off with one of the monumental rock and roll records of all time School Day (Ring Ring Goes The Bell), Chuck Berry roars through a bevy of 11 more home runs which made this one of the most important and emulated albums of all time. The album features classic gems like Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Too Much Monkey Business, Havana Moon and No Money Down. Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing the turnaround riff to a whole new generation of guitar players, After School Session was truly a primer for a ton of rock and blues artists for years like Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Johnny Winter, The Animals and The Yardbirds. Chuck Berry was more than a rock ‘n roll genius. He was a natural poet. He could rhyme. He could compose lyrically two and three minute musical stories about the everyday man and woman, about the struggles of being a teenager, about romance, about cars, about faraway places, about dancing, and most notably about rock ‘n rollin.’ His unconventional approach to music was unlike that of anyone before him. He opened the doors for millions of music fans around the world to enjoy rock and blues, making him one of the first pioneers of the popular recording business that we all enjoy to this day. Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Chuck Berry and the Chess Records’ arsenal of fine recordings. That is why we are so very proud to announce The Chuck Berry/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his monumental first album After School Session - The Deluxe Anniversary Edition. Mastered by Joe Reagoso (Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter) for the first time on audiophile vinyl from the Chess monophonic tapes, Chuck Berry’s After School Session now features 3 sensational bonus tracks including his first Chess singles Maybellene, You Can’t Catch Me and Thirty Days (To Come Back Home). Philadelphia has always been a breeding ground for some of
the finest music and artistry ever to embrace radio and retail shops across the
globe. Daryl Hall and John Oates are one of the most successful recording duos
in modern history and their first projects on Atlantic Records "Whole
Oats" and "War Babies" both show the richness of their Philly
rock and soul sounds which soon became a cornerstone to their biggest albums
and singles yet to be released in the decades to follow.
"Whole Oats" started it all in 1972. Produced by
the legendary Arif Mardin (Aretha Franklin, The Rascals), the seasoned vet
brought the best out of the young duo with fan favorites like "I’m
Sorry" "Goodnight and Goodmorning" as well as the big radio hit
"Fall in Philadelphia", which has been featured recently on Daryl
Hall's smash TV series "Daryl's House"
Daryl Hall elaborates “‘Whole Oats’ was a compilation of
songs that were written in our college and post college days. And, for me,
reflected a newfound interest in things outside of pure Philly soul.”
Their impeccable harmonies and multi-instrumentation blended
famously with Mardin’s New York production especially on soul filled ballads
like "Lily (Are You Really Happy)" plus the Daryl Hall masterwork
Major success followed with their second album Abandoned
Luncheonette (FRM7269 LP) thanks to the smash hit "She’s Gone" as
national tours and massive radio exposure began.
Always growing their sound, their third adventurous release
"War Babies" was a prog-rock venture filled with stellar musical
support and production from fellow Philly rock icon Todd Rundgren.
John Oates describes the session “‘War Babies’ was an urban
experiment and introduced an aggressive more progressive component that would
be incorporated into future albums in various ways.”
The prog sound of tunes like the masterful "Is It A
Star?" and the keyboard and synth driven tracks like "70’s
Scenario" still reach into the soulful harmonies of the duo.”
Their first Lp to chart, thanks to solid rock radio support
on the above tracks as well as soulful rockers "Can’t Stop The Music"
and "Beanie G. And The Rose Tatoo", their affiliation with Todd
Rundgren would continue over the years with tours and recordings.
No stranger to Hall and Oates, Friday Music is pleased to
announce both "Whole Oats" and "War Babies" together for
the first time in this exclusive limited edition double cd package, mastered
impeccably from the Atlantic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso.
Enhancing this fine 2 CD release, we are also including the

1968 was a interesting year for The Monkees. Aside from
releasing more hit singles & another smash Lp with "The Birds The Bees
& The Monkees" (FRM-1966), future superstar and upcoming film maker
Jack Nicholson, Bob Rafelson & The Monkees were developing the concept for
a psychedelic film about this successful rock band who were trying to escape
from their "manufactured image." Albeit an underlying glimpse of
reality, the movie wound up being a swan song for the original line-up of the
band until 1996's "Justus" (FRM-72452). As the "Head" movie
was underrated at the time, it has since gone on to become ranked as one of the
finest films in the rock genre.
The original soundtrack of "Head" by The Monkees
has a history itself as being one of their strongest albums with stellar
material ranging from The Monkees' Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, plus more
great tracks from Harry Nilsson and Carole King with musical help from friends
like Carole King, Stephen Stills and Dewey Martin from Buffalo Springfield.
A hit single emerged with "Porpoise Song"
featuring the powerful lead vocal of Micky Dolenz, as the rest of the album is
inter weaved with keen Monkees dialog and skits that were in the original film,
plus the stellar score by Ken Thorne.
In honor of The Monkees, Friday Music is once again pleased
to continue the celebration of the Monkees Golden Anniversary with The Monkees
"Head Alternate." This first time vinyl album features first time
