IMPECCABLE MASTERING FROM THE ORIGINAL COLUMBIA TAPES
FEATURING NEW 2012 INTERVIEW WITH JOHNNY WINTER
Johnny Winter has been a mainstay in the recording and concert business now for over fifty
years. Playing in bands and recording a ton of singles before he signed with Imperial Records
and then the giant Columbia Records for a string of highly successful albums, he has always
been an enduring legend who has continually given his millions of fans the music, the artistry and
the excitement of which has never been duplicated.
Johnny Winter And was a very hard working, albeit short lived venture consisting of Johnny
Winter and initially the trio which encompassed the sixties pop rockers The McCoys, featuring
Rick Zerringer a/k/a Rick Derringer (guitar), Randy Zerringer (drums), and Randy Jo Hobbs
(bass). Randy would soon be replaced by Bobby Caldwell, and the band developed their sound
successfully eventually making the band one of the more important groundbreaking concert
arena attractions in the early seventies.
The quartet would go on to make history for Johnny Winter as their Johnny Winter And Live
(FRM-30475) would go on to become one of the most historic rock and roll concert recordings
As we recently released for our audiophile vinyl Johnny Winter And Live, the second part of the
equation lies within the seven hard rockin’ workouts that comprise our latest Relayer Friday
Music compact disc Live At The Fillmore East 10/3/70.
As Johnny Winter recently noted “I realize that the energy displayed here at the time of this
recording was a real sign of the times.” A sign of the times for sure, as Johnny Winter And’s
stage show and recordings would catapult his career into the rest of the seventies, eighties,
nineties and beyond.
Johnny’s guitarist and producer Paul Nelson commented further, “To me Johnny's live recordings
from this era inspired me and many others to play rock and blues guitar. This newly remastered
Fillmore performance as well as "Johnny Winter And Live” and Johnny's "Captured Live"
contained a veritable dictionary of guitar riffs and turnarounds needed for any budding guitarist's
The proof is in the recording.....just listen to some of the rock and blues champions found on this
brilliant remaster...how about the full length 22 minute version of B.B. King’s masterpiece It’s My
Own Fault....Johnny’s brilliant 18 minute smash Mean Town Blues, Bob Dylan’s Highway 61
Revisited, of which Johnny makes his own, or the live interpretation of Johnny Winter And/Rick
Derringer’s smash Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo, which as noted previously a lot of us kids played
along with on guitar back in the seventies.
